About

Chalco Guinea Company S.A. is a special-purpose joint venture developing the Boffa bauxite project in northwestern Guinea, majority-owned (85%) by Chalco Energy Holdings, a subsidiary of Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco/Chinalco), with the Guinean government holding 15% (option to raise to 35%). Established via a 2018 mining convention, it holds licenses for the Boffa North and South blocks, valid from July 2018 to July 2033. The mine holds an estimated 1.75 billion tonnes of bauxite reserves, sustaining over 60 years of extraction, with first-phase output of 12 million tonnes annually feeding Chalco's Shandong and Guangxi alumina refineries. Production began in 2020, boosting China's bauxite self-sufficiency.
