Active Pit

An open-cut excavation in which mining operations such as drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling are actively being conducted. In bauxite, iron ore, and gold open-pit mines, the active pit represents the current operational footprint and moves progressively as ore is extracted. Pit design, geotechnical stability, dewatering, and traffic management are ongoing priorities within an active pit environment.
