Alloying

The process of combining a base metal with one or more other elements to produce a material with improved or tailored properties such as hardness, corrosion resistance, or strength. In gold refining, alloying produces gold alloys for jewellery and industrial applications. In aluminum production downstream of bauxite refining, alloying adds elements such as copper, magnesium, and silicon to produce specific aluminium alloy grades.
