Alumina Extraction

The proportion of total available alumina in bauxite ore that is recovered as alumina product during Bayer process refining. Expressed as a percentage, alumina extraction efficiency is influenced by bauxite mineralogy, digestion conditions (temperature, caustic concentration, retention time), and the relative proportions of gibbsite, boehmite, and diaspore minerals present, each requiring different digestion conditions for optimal dissolution.
