Anode Consumption
The rate at which carbon anode material is consumed during the electrochemical reduction process in aluminium smelting, typically expressed in kilograms of carbon per tonne of aluminium produced. Theoretically, approximately 330 kg of carbon is consumed per tonne of aluminium; actual consumption is higher due to air burn, dusting, and anode effects. Minimising anode consumption through improved carbon quality and cell management reduces production costs and carbon emissions.
