Belt Tension

The pulling force applied along the length of a conveyor belt to prevent slippage on drive pulleys and maintain correct sag between support idlers. Adequate belt tension is essential for efficient power transmission, stable belt tracking, and preventing belt damage. Tension is managed through take-up systems (gravity or mechanical) that maintain consistent tension as the belt stretches with use and temperature variations. Incorrect tension causes slippage, excessive wear, or structural damage to conveyor components in mining operations.
