The planned arrangement and configuration of working benches within an open pit mine, defining the spatial organisation of excavation levels, ramps, haul roads, and operational areas. Bench layout planning considers pit geometry, ore body shape, equipment turning radii, traffic management, and geotechnical constraints. Efficient bench layout maximises equipment productivity, minimises re-handling of material, and ensures safe working conditions. In bauxite, iron ore, and gold mines, bench layout is continuously updated as the pit advances through its life.
