Bulk Explosive

An explosive manufactured in liquid or porous prill form and delivered in bulk to blast holes via purpose-built explosive vehicles, rather than in cartridged or packaged form. Common bulk explosives include ANFO (ammonium nitrate fuel oil) and emulsion explosives. Bulk delivery improves safety, reduces cost, and enables pumping directly into blast holes. In large open pit iron ore and gold mines, bulk explosive delivery systems are standard practice due to high consumption volumes and the cost advantages of bulk manufacture and delivery.
