Bulk Storage

The large-scale containment of mineral commodities in stockpiles, silos, tanks, or storage domes at mine sites, processing facilities, or port terminals pending further processing, blending, or shipment. Bulk storage provides buffer capacity to decouple mining, processing, and shipping schedules, improving operational flexibility and supply reliability. Design considerations include storage capacity, material handling access, dust suppression, moisture management, and structural stability. In bauxite and iron ore operations, large open stockpiles managed by stacker-reclaimer systems are the dominant bulk storage method.
