Cloud Computing

Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing services — including servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and artificial intelligence — over the internet, enabling on-demand access to shared pools of configurable resources. In the mining industry, encompassing bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond operations, cloud computing has become an increasingly important enabler of digital transformation. Mine operators leverage cloud platforms to consolidate and centralise vast volumes of operational data generated by sensors, equipment telemetry, geological models, and laboratory information management systems. This data can be processed and analysed in real time, supporting predictive maintenance programmes, optimising blasting and processing parameters, and improving ore grade control. Cloud computing also underpins collaboration across geographically distributed mine sites and corporate offices, allowing geologists, engineers, and executives to access integrated data and applications from any location. The scalability and flexibility of cloud infrastructure reduce capital expenditure on IT hardware while improving cybersecurity, disaster recovery capabilities, and software update efficiency.
