Conveyor Inspection

Conveyor inspection is a systematic and structured process of examining conveyor systems in mining operations — including bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining — to assess their mechanical condition, structural integrity, and operational performance. In mining environments, conveyor systems are subjected to extreme loads, abrasive materials, moisture, dust, and continuous mechanical stress, making regular inspection critical to operational continuity. Inspections cover all major components including belts, rollers, idlers, pulleys, drive units, take-up systems, scrapers, skirtboards, and structural supports. Inspectors look for signs of belt misalignment, belt damage or splicing failures, roller seizure, bearing wear, structural cracking, and material spillage. Conveyor inspection programs may be conducted daily (walk-around checks), weekly (intermediate assessments), or monthly and annually (comprehensive engineering reviews). In bauxite mining, inspections must account for the sticky and abrasive nature of bauxite ore. In gold and diamond mining, spillage control is especially critical due to the high value of material. In iron ore mining, the sheer tonnage throughput demands that conveyor inspection be rigorous and frequent to prevent catastrophic failures. Modern inspection programs increasingly incorporate ultrasonic thickness testing, thermographic imaging, and vibration analysis to detect subsurface and early-stage defects before they cause downtime.
