Drill Target

A drill target is a specific geological feature, mineralized zone, or subsurface objective selected for investigation through drilling. Exploration geologists identify drill targets using geological mapping, geophysical surveys, geochemical data, satellite imagery, and previous drilling results. In bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond exploration, drill targets may include orebody extensions, structural zones, geochemical anomalies, or geophysical signatures associated with mineralization. Target selection is a critical step because drilling represents a significant investment. Successful drill targets increase the likelihood of discovering new mineral resources and expanding existing deposits. Before drilling begins, geologists evaluate target size, depth, accessibility, geological significance, and economic potential. Modern exploration programs use sophisticated geological modeling and data analytics to prioritize drill targets. Accurate targeting improves exploration efficiency, reduces costs, and maximizes the value of drilling campaigns. Drill targets are fundamental drivers of mineral discovery and resource growth.
