Energy Performance is a measurable outcome that quantifies how effectively a mining operation uses energy in relation to its production activities, providing a basis for comparison over time, across sites, or against industry norms. Energy performance is typically expressed through key performance indicators (KPIs) such as specific energy consumption (SEC) — the amount of energy used per unit of ore processed or metal produced — as well as energy intensity ratios, energy cost per tonne, and greenhouse gas emissions per unit of output. In the context of bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining, tracking energy performance is essential for identifying trends, diagnosing inefficiencies, evaluating the impact of improvement initiatives, and fulfilling regulatory and voluntary reporting obligations.
