Industrial process water refers to water that is directly incorporated into, or used in the production of, a product or used in a mining or mineral processing operation as an integral part of the extraction and beneficiation process. In bauxite, gold, iron ore, and diamond mining, process water is utilized extensively across multiple stages including ore washing, slurry transport, flotation circuits, gravity separation, dense media separation (DMS), and dust suppression systems. The quality of process water is carefully managed since dissolved minerals, pH levels, suspended solids, and chemical composition can significantly affect process efficiency and product quality. In gold mining, process water is used in cyanide leaching circuits where it dissolves gold from crushed ore, while in diamond mining it is critical for the DMS process that separates diamonds based on density. Iron ore operations use large volumes of process water in wet magnetic separation and pelletizing operations, while bauxite mining relies on it in the Bayer process for alumina extraction. Process water is typically recycled and recirculated within closed-loop systems to minimize consumption, reduce operational costs, and comply with environmental discharge regulations. Monitoring and managing process water quality, volume, and chemical balance is a fundamental engineering and environmental responsibility in all mining operations.
