Orebody Classification

Orebody Classification is the systematic categorization of an orebody based on its geological characteristics, level of exploration confidence, economic viability, and mining potential. Classification helps mining companies, investors, regulators, and technical professionals understand the quality, reliability, and commercial significance of a mineral deposit.

From a geological perspective, orebodies may be classified according to shape, origin, mineralization style, and host rock characteristics. Examples include stratiform, vein-type, disseminated, massive, residual, placer, and kimberlite-hosted orebodies. From a resource reporting perspective, orebodies are classified into categories such as inferred, indicated, and measured resources, depending on the level of geological confidence.

In bauxite mining, classification often considers ore quality, thickness, and beneficiation potential. Iron ore projects classify orebodies according to grade, continuity, and metallurgical performance. Gold and diamond operations incorporate mineral distribution, recovery characteristics, and economic factors into classification systems.
