La Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) emerged as one of the standout winners at the third edition of the Mining and Green Awards (MIGA 2025), securing three major trophies in a ceremony that has become a benchmark for excellence and innovation in Guinea’s mining industry. The awards reaffirm CBG’s position as a reference operator in bauxite mining and highlight its operational rigor, community engagement, and governance standards at a time when the sector is being reshaped by the country’s Simandou 2040 vision.
At the ceremony held in Conakry, CBG was named Best Bauxite Company, recognized as Best Community Partner, and saw its Director General, Karifa Condé, receive the prestigious Toumboui Award for Best Executive. The triple recognition reflects what organizers described as a “global performance” spanning production discipline, social responsibility, and leadership.
The Best Bauxite Company award acknowledges CBG’s sustained performance across its mining, rail, and port operations, which continue to underpin Guinea’s position as the world’s leading bauxite exporter. Industry observers note that the company’s ability to maintain consistent output while strengthening safety, environmental management, and cost control has been critical in a volatile global commodities environment.
Equally significant was CBG’s recognition as Best Community Partner, an award grounded in criteria that prioritize proximity to impacted communities, contribution to local economic development, and the quality of community development projects. Over the years, CBG has expanded investments in social infrastructure, local employment, education, and environmental initiatives in its areas of operation, reinforcing its social license to operate. For mining actors operating in Guinea’s increasingly demanding regulatory and social context, this distinction signals the growing importance of structured, transparent, and results-oriented community engagement.
The Toumboui Award for Best Executive, presented to Director General Karifa Condé, highlights leadership attributes increasingly valued in Guinea’s mining sector: the development of national human capital, social dialogue, and the promotion of young Guinean talent. Under Condé’s stewardship, CBG has emphasized internal capacity building and workforce stability, contributing to an improved social climate and operational continuity. For many sector stakeholders, the award underscores the link between effective leadership and sustainable mining performance.
Beyond the trophies, MIGA 2025 placed CBG’s achievements within a broader national narrative. Held under the theme “Challenges of Mining Projects in Light of the Simandou 2040 Vision”, the event emphasized the government’s ambition to leverage mining as a driver of structural transformation. The MIGA Excellence Prize was awarded to President of the Transition Mamadi Doumbouya for his commitment to positioning mining as a lever of economic growth, notably through policies encouraging in-country processing and the development of refineries to add value to Guinea’s natural resources.
According to MIGA Commissioner General Ba-Sékou Amirou Dramé, the awards are designed to foster “positive competition” among mining companies, based on rigorous field assessments of social impact, economic contribution, and community development prospects. This approach aligns with evolving expectations from both the state and communities, as Guinea seeks to balance large-scale resource development with inclusive growth.
While CBG dominated the bauxite and community categories, the title of Best Mining Company of the Year was awarded to AGB2A-GIC, recognized for its operational performance, environmental compliance, and contribution to sector development. The diversity of winners reflects a maturing mining ecosystem in which excellence is measured across multiple dimensions.
In a statement following the ceremony, CBG thanked the MIGA organizers for the recognition and reiterated its commitment to placing sustainable performance at the core of its long-term strategy. For mining actors, investors, and policymakers, CBG’s triple win at MIGA 2025 sends a clear message: operational excellence, strong community partnerships, and credible leadership are no longer optional—they are central to competitiveness in Guinea’s mining future.
